Anchor of Promise #33 The Bible is our Hope!
Romans 15:4 “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
Before I had a GPS, maps or mapquest were my go-to’s for road trips. You could see your start and finish easily and pin point some stops along the way.
Isn’t life the same way? We have a starting point and a finishing point. Along the way we face obstacles, detours, road blocks, fun stops, and emergencies. But the thing about life is we sometimes get so lost and can’t find our way back to the original plan.
God has our lives already mapped out for us. He knows what stops we’ll make, what detours we will face, and the crashes we may face. How can we be on the same game plan as Him? The Bible is the roadmap that was laid out for each and everyone of us. I love how Paul says “it was written for our learning.” If you want to know God’s will for your life- read the Bible.
It is not going to say “Hey Susie, thou shalt be a nurse” But it does say to seek Wisdom and Understanding when trying to make a tough decision. (Proverbs 3)
It will not say “Hey Joe, tomorrow you will have a heart attack from all your stress.”, but it does say, “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
It will not say ” Take that opportunity A over opportunity B.”, but it does say, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”
You see the Bible isn’t some magic 8 ball we ask questions to and shake for an answer. But it is the inspired word of God, written by God. It is for our benefit to read so that we can keep getting a better understanding through the power of the Holy Spirit, who God is and what He promises us. It teaches us how to live like Jesus to others. How to serve others and lift them higher than ourselves. Our Bibles are our road maps for Hope and peace in the middle of complete chaos.
If you are struggling with finding hope, I encourage you to read the book of John.
If you are struggling with finding wisdom on a decision, I encourage you to start reading the first 7 books of Proverbs.
If you are struggling with trying to have peace about circumstances, Read Philippians 4.
There are so many go-to’s for our troubles and doubts in the Bible. I hope this encouraged you to see just how much God wants you to have peace and know that through His love letter to us (The Bible) you can have HOPE!
