Anchor of Promise #31 What God Says, He WILL DO!
“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19
I’d love to just give you a quick snapshot of what is happening around this verse in the Bible.
This is during the time of the leadership of Moses, as he leads Israel to the land of Canaan that God had promised them at the beginning of their journey. The Israelite’s started becoming a threat to every surrounding city because of the power God gave them to overcome the opposing armies in battle. King Balak has hired a man who practices magic etc, named Balaam to come and curse the people of Israel. Where King Balak lives he can see the people of Israel. He believes that this type of curse will stop God’s power.
As Balaam is on his journey to King Balak, a crazy situation happens. God gets angry with Balaam, not because he is going to King Balak, but because of his evil motives. God appears as the “Angel of the Lord” and only Balaam’s donkey sees Him. She is scared and 3 different times she either walks into something that makes Balaam get hurt or she doesn’t move. Each time she is beaten by Balaam. The donkey speaks to Balaam and asks why he is hurting her.
Here I find this so funny because it doesn’t even phase Balaam that his donkey is speaking to him. He just carries on in normal conversation and basically tells her she has embarrassed him and abused him. He would love to kill her in nice words. She replies back of her loyalty and how she was protecting him. As God revealed to Balaam the Angel of the Lord that was standing in the roadway with His sword drawn. He realizes his donkey has saved him and speaks with God. God tells Balaam that he can go to King Balak but only can speak the words God gives Him. That God has promised Israel blessing and no one can take that away. So this verse is what Balaam says to King Balak as they look out over the Israelites from a high mountain. He explains to King Balak 4 different times that God is in control and has the power to keep His vow of protection and blessing on Israel.
God’s promise to Israel has been kept and will remain until the end of age. He also promises those who bless Israel that He will bless them in return. (I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:3) Pray for our Nation to remain faithful to Israel. It will be a scary thing for our Nation the moment we decide to stop assisting them.
Remember that God is faithful to keep His promises for both blessing and judgement. What a great comfort to know that we can depend on Him to always come through on His word. His promises are endless and ones we can claim through the power of Jesus over any evil or lies that come into our life. Resist the devil and he will and HAS to flee from you. Remember that God is coming back again and that is one of the best promises He has given those who believe in Him! I encourage you today to dig out one of God’s many promises and claim it for your day! He is faithful and will do what He says He will do!
