Trust. One of the hardest things to do. {Anchor of Promise #23}

Anchor of Promise # 23 God will guide if we trust.

trusting-God-corrieWhy is trusting so hard sometimes? There is no 100% guarantee when we fix our trust in people. Why? Because people are well..people. We make mistakes, have forgetful memories, or sometimes even work in selfish ambition. The let down rate is so much higher when we base our trust in just people.

God promises in Proverbs 3 just how much we can trust in Him and the outcome of our trust is His promise for today.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

What does trusting God with “all our heart” look like?

  • When health reports are negative- we trust God knows what He is doing.
  • When paychecks don’t cover cost of living- we trust God will provide or show us opportunities to take to make money.
  • When fear is spread worldwide on News Channels- we trust God is not surprised and is in control.
  • When we feel overwhelmed in our career, as a parent, grandparent, or by life- we trust that through Christ we can be strengthened and He will sustain us each day.

There are so many other situations but I think you are seeing what I mean. Trusting in God is a daily thing. It doesn’t just happen one day where you have no fears, worries or stresses. It is when those worries and fears arise that you remind yourself that God knows what is going on and He will “direct your paths”. And as you encounter God’s faithfulness in stepping in and proving His faithfulness, is when your trust starts to grow more and more in Him.

I love the Hebrew word for “direct” used in this verse. “yashar” which means “to make smooth, straight, or right” it’s the idea of removing obstacles that are in the way. God will smooth out the bumps or stresses you face each day. He never reveals when or how He will do it, but the key is TRUSTING that He will.

This promise of “help” from God doesn’t just happen either, We have 3 actions that we need to take to see this blessing from Him.Trusting-God

  1. “trust” God.
  2. “Lean not” on our own understanding (living life on emotions)
  3. “acknowledge” His leadership.

When we do these 3 things DAILY, God will respond with His promise of directing our paths.

I want to encourage you today that if you struggle with trusting God, to seek Him through prayer and ask Him to take your anchor of trust out of your hands or from the hands of people you have placed it in, and place it into Himself. He will meet you and will always be faithful to “direct your paths” when you fully trust in Him. Leave no room for Satan’s lies that you are helpless, alone, will not make it, etc. Because we have a FAITHFUL and GRACIOUS Father in Heaven who PROMISES to smooth out our paths and help us through life. Give Him your battles and stresses and an overwhelming sense of peace and joy will fill your heart.

  1. I have been in situations when I was trusting God, and others (family) would say, “Why don’t you do something?” I would respond, “I am doing something. Trust is an action verb.” Many folks see “trust” as doing nothing. But when I trust, I do something – read scripture and testimonies encourage myself in the Lord, talk to Him, remind myself of his promises. Those things are not “doing nothing.”
