Anchor of Promise #17 God’s Done the Work!
Psalm 86:11-13: “Teach me You way, O Lord, I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore. For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. (Hell)
Verse 15: “But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering and abundance in mercy and truth.”
David is in full repentance for the things he had done. (adultery and murder) He is being hunted down by King Saul and cries out to the Lord several times for His mercy and to rescue him from his enemies. But what I love about these verses is that they are jam packed with truth of Who God is. God is our Teacher, Coach, Merciful by saving us from Hell. And each day His mercies are new for us!
Stop believing the lies that you have to fix all your issues before God can forgive you. (Romans 5:8 But God demonstrated His own love towards us, in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.) There is nothing we can do on our own to be pleasing in God’s sight because of our sin. (Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.) The beautiful thing about Grace is that God knew all this and that is why Jesus was sent to die for our sins. He had no earthly father, His heavenly father is what gave Him the power to live a perfect life and to be the one without sin to pay for our sins! (John 3:16- For God so loved the world, that He have His one and only son. That whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.) You can know these things but may have never made this real in your heart. I encourage you today that whatever you have done or are in right now, that God has already done the work to forgive you. It is YOUR CHOICE to ask God to take the problems you have away and receive what He did by faith as your payment for your sins! Romans 10:9- that if you confess with your mouth that JESUS is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be SAVED!” That’s it! That is all you have to do. There is nothing you can do to take away your own sin or get to heaven. (For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8) If it were about “works” then Jesus would have told the thief hanging on the cross next to Him, to get down off his cross and do something good. He didn’t tell Him that, he heard the thief’s confession and faith. And He told him, “Today you will be with me in paradise!” (Luke 23:43) Jesus did the work, you and I just have to confess, accept by faith and we are redeemed! If it were something we had to do, then Jesus had no point dying on the cross.
This was a longer post but it is so important that you know where you are going when this life is over. Throw your anchor of self-righteousness into Christ Who has already done everything that’s needed for you to be forgiven, have eternal life, and live this life through victory over sin by the Holy Spirit! Life is not easy after you do this, BUT God promises to “teach” you His ways if you are willing to put effort into reading His word and allow HIM to change your lifestyles, passions, purposes, etc.
