He is Near {Anchor of Promise #15}

Anchor of Promise #15 God is Near When We Humble Ourselves.

James 4: 6-10

“But He gives more grace. Therefore He (God) says: God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter (haughty sin) be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

Pride is such a serious matter with the Lord.

God created Lucifer (who we now refer to as Satan) who was the most beautiful and intelligent angel in Heaven. His body was covered in precious gems and stones and when he was around God, the glory and light of God illuminated Lucifer. He was one of the top angels with big responsibilities like the Arch Angel Michael. Pride is what made Satan believe he could be better than God. He forgot that he was CREATED by God. With that prideful mindset and ego, He spread this lie to other angels, who in turn followed him.  God banished Satan and his followers to Hell. A place created specifically for just Satan and his demons. ( I encourage you to read the account in Ezekiel 28)

Satan still to this day tries and spread the lies to u6e01b0858ec5da02b63d9fd7a236b27fs that life is all about us. We sometimes think our self worth is in how many “likes” we get on facebook or how many pats on the back we get for doing a service, that was to be done only to the audience of one. God Himself.

There was a point in my life just recently back in November 2014, that God brought me to my knees and all I could do was cry and pour out my heart to Him. I realized I was living so much for myself and wanted to prove myself that I could be someone in this world. My pride had gotten so bad that I was starving my relationship with God. God resists the proud. He is so holy and just and we need to remember that if we claim to “follow” or are “saved” by God, that we must die to ourselves daily (spiritually speaking). We must realize that the only reason we have what we have, or that we are even alive is because God allows it! His promise is clear that once we get our hearts right with Him (asking for forgiveness for the sin of pride) , and humble ourselves before Him, realizing HE CREATED us and has given us the blessing, then He will draw near to us and restore us.

I hope this blog encourages you if you have strayed because of your pride like I did. It is an amazing thing to get things right with the One Who holds your life in His hands.

  1. And as we are humble before Christ, the less we think about ourselves and the more people respect us. That is a bit of a picture of how true it is that “he was is last becomes first.”
