Hush little baby don’t you cry..Anchor of Promise #6

“The Lord you God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save, He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

Anchor of Promise #6 – God Quiets Us with His Love.

2015-06-19_20.10.24Whenever I read this verse, I picture my 3 year old son. Since he was a baby, he always loved when I would scoop him up and rock in the gliding chair in his room and sing him to sleep. Whether it was nap time or bedtime that was our process. There were nights I just wanted to put him in his crib and go to bed myself, but I knew that those moments would be gone soon, and that was how he felt loved. There were also the teething days where all he did was fuss and cry in pain. Rocking and singing in the glider always calmed him down to the point of sleepiness.

To this day we sing a few songs before bed.

What makes this relevant to the bible verse? God does the same for us! He scoops us up in His loving arms and “quiets us with His love” and “sings”. If earthly parents have this kind of compassion for their children, why wouldn’t our Heavenly Father do the same for His? It’s a peaceful thought to picture sitting in God’s lap being rocked and sung to. When you are having a bad day, are stressed, feel lonely, feel confused, feel everything is going wrong, feel down, feel hurt, or even feel betrayed; remember that God is there holding you and quieting you with His love. He promises that He is your loving Heavenly Father, Who wants nothing but good for you. Crawl into the lap of Jesus and tell Him how you are feeling and you will notice a change in pressure. Venting to friends or family doesn’t always take away the pain or hurt that we still carry. God is the only one who can “quiet us with His love.” Praying for you who are reading this that may be dealing with deep pain or “open wounds”. I hope and pray that you can find peace again and feel God’s loving arms around you as He rejoices over you in song and quiets you with His love!
